It's been awhile...

I'm not even really sure how to start this...

It is an epic fail on my part for not beginning this sooner. For awhile I've been thinking about how to best utilize this blog. I think I have come to the decision to use it as a tool to keep everyone up to date on the every day activities of the fraternity that you might not want to hear about in those e-mails that clutter up your inboxes!

For right now I think I'm going to talk a little bit about what we have planned for the semester in different areas of the fraternity.

Last night in chapter, Ashley brought up the idea of having a day for KB to work on us outside of retreat. It will be a sort of introspective leadership building day focused on bringing out our strongest and weakest points. A suggestion was made to bring back the color personality test. To jog your memories, major personality types are spit into green, gold, orange, and blue. Brief descriptions are given as to the traits of each and how the colors interact with each other. This hasn't been done since I've been active so it will be interesting to see what categories everyone falls into.

We have 8 membership candidates this spring. Rebecca, Molly, Khris, Travis, Taylor, Ryan, Robby, and Kelsey all started their candidate process on the 22nd. We've already seen a lot of them participating in committee meetings and chapters and it's always exciting to see some new enthusiastic faces.

KB will be continuing the annual spring fundraiser "Rent a Bro" this year. So start making some lists of around the house chores and yardwork! We will probably be available most in March and April so hopefully we'll be able to complete that again this year. There have also been some thoughts of hosting a golf tournament sometime in the future. If any of you are avid golfers get that swing ready! There will definitely be more updates on this project in the future.

On the social front, we are trying to do formal in Gatlinburg, TN. Though we've hit a few roadblocks thus far, but we're still looking forward to getting something along those lines together. We're also starting to do karaoke night at a local wing place. Though I didn't go last week, it seems like it will be a lot of fun. What's better than singing and eating with some of your best friends?

We're all really looking forward to the upcoming semester, and all of the things that we can accomplish within the next few months!

A Chapter Update

Hey Alumni --

I haven't forgotten about this blog, I just figured that since I bombard you enough via the listserv with information that there was no reason to double up on most of the information you're getting. So here's a bit of information on the Rho's:

The Rho's are doing pretty well as a class. For their service project, they are overhauling the music library and getting everything organized. Kind of a feat, if you've seen the uniform room/music library as of late. They're also required to make up their own service project. They're also in charge of updating the chronicle (as most classes are). For fundraising they, like the service project, have to come up with their own as a class.

I haven't been to the candidate meetings because, well, I don't have a little and I personally feel that the more brothers are hoovering over candidates as they try to have their meeting is a little...daunting, to say the least. But I have had interviews with most of them and they all seem like great kids and have good potential as brothers. As far as I know, no one has failed a test yet (or so was the verdict on Sunday). Their next test will be next week and they'll be taking the district test.

Also, next week is the retreat at Toccoa, GA. It seems to be a good time for all, as about 15 of you alumni have said that they're going to be attending in one way or another. Side plug for the Catholics going to retreat: I'm 99% sure that we will NOT be doing the watery pasta stuff, but something different for friday/Lent. For those of you that are coming, remember it's 15$ a night, and if you can pay before, that would be great, but otherwise please bring the money to retreat.

ALSO! Something I may not have mentioned about retreat is that there will be archery. It will by 5$ extra and a cost that you incur yourself, but if you're interested, realize that that activity IS available. There will also be waterfalls and whatnot within hiking distance, as I'm told. Amy Dombrowski (the VP) and I will be travelling down to Toccoa early to scope out the area. Dinner/festivities should start for everyone around 7 or so.

ALSO x2: Second chapter interview is during retreat -- if you want to bring something, feel free to bring something (and by something I hope you remember what I'm talking about 'cuz I can't really go into detail). But this will be a good chance for all of you to get to know the candidates and the candidates to know you -- more than anything I'm hoping that this will begin to bridge the long deteriorating bridge between the current KB and Alumni.

Lastly (or ALSO X3) please keep each other in your prayers. As the new year continues to roll on, things are changing for all of us -- some for the good, some for the not-as-good-as-we'd-like-them-to-be -- but remember that it's the love of friends and brothers that often get us through the rough patches.

Always and forever AEA

Epic fail on my part

So epic fail on my behalf, because the weeks have gotten away from me. And I totally knew that it was coming/had happened, but the day of the week and the date of the month didn't match in my brain...and, yeah. (sigh)

ANYway --

Congrats to Michelle and Dauge on your special day, even though it was like, last weekend. I still felt it needed a special note, placeholder, since you both are KB alumni. I'm sure I speak for pretty much everyone when I say I wish you the greatest happiness together. =D

Preserve the Honor Day

Hey guys -- forward I sent out on the listserv, but here's an update as well from the KB President:

Hey Everyone,

I hope that exam week is going well for everyone. It's definetly a fun time for all. Sorry it took me so long to respond about Christine's e-mail. I think that Preserve the Honor Day is a great way for us to show our pride in our fraternity. I've already set out my letter shirt to wear tomorrow. I'm not saying this so that everyone will feel obligated to join in on this. But, I support and encourage everyone that would like to wear letters in a show of support for our fraternity tomorrow. Good luck with the rest of exam week and hope everyone is well.

oops!

So as all of you that are on the listserv probably have already read, I was trying to reply to one email last night, and somehow it ended up going out to the entire serv. Oops! This is why you should never type when tired...

On another note, a few people have asked me about the lawsuit I mentioned in the email. I didn't realize there were a few people that hadn't heard yet. So here's the link to one of the news articles about it -- I hope you can all find it helpful. The chapter is also working on some hazing workshops for the near future, I'm fairly positive. At SED there was a required hazing workshop for all participants and brothers. I've emailed Rod Whiteman, the brother that gave the presentation, with a few questions and got a draft of the powerpoint that he used. That presentation will probably be going out over the serv sometime in the near future. Part of membership education, I've realized, is not educating the brothers that are currently in the circle, but alumni as well.

Anyway, sorry for all the bad news and whatnot. And sorry again for the confusion on the email. I hope everyone has a great day!
