Greetings Alumni!

Greetings Alumni!

My name is Amy and last night I was elected the new Alumni Secretary for Kappa Beta for the 2008-2009 school year. I was charged with contacting you all, which, really, is something I would have done either way. I’m fairly new to the brotherhood and so my opportunities to have met many of you are less than some of the older brothers. I hope that I’ll be able to get to know as many of you as possible on a one on one basis. More than anything I want to work on the communication that seems to have been dying between the current chapter and the alumni.

I guess first I should introduce myself to you a little bit. My name is Amy Carroll and I crossed into the brotherhood Spring 2007 as part of the Omicron class. My nickname is Jersey and as of right now I don’t have a number. In the 2008-2009 school year, I’ll be a junior majoring in English (emphasis writing publication) with a minor in Japanese. I’m hoping to study abroad in Japan next summer as well as attend school or teach there sometime after undergraduate or graduate school (I’m still kind of undecided on that one). Though my family lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, I’m originally from outside Detroit, Michigan. Last year I was the public relations chair for KB, and let me say, I think I made some pretty killer flyers and posters. Through the positive steps taken not only by me but the entire brotherhood, we’ve started to get the name of Kappa Kappa Psi into the band and community with a positive light. I think the recent crossing of the Pi class and the addition of 17 new, amazing brothers is testament to the fact that we’re still striving.

Like I said earlier, I haven’t had the chance to meet or get to know many of you. More than anything, I want to try and work on the breech of communication that seems to have formed between the current brotherhood and those that have graduated. I will promise you all that I will do the best of my ability to continue my constitutional duties by getting out the newsletters in a timely matter. I’ve heard that many alumni are starting to shift to a digital approach, so in addition to sending out a hard copy of the newsletters I’m going to try and utilize the programs on my computer and make an electronic copy to send out as well. Newsletters aren’t enough though. Even if they come out twice a semester, there are still day to day activities that you as alumni may not be privy. To work on rectifying that, I’ve started to create a blog in which I will update as events and whatnot occur. The address is http://kkykb.blogspot.com/ . I’m not completely familiar with the blogger website, but I’m going to try and include pictures and other random ramblings. Many of you, I’m told, have started to shy away from the listserv in one form or another, so hopefully this additional form of communication will help to bring you back “in the loop.” Also, I’ve noticed that many of you have blogs of our own. If you’d like me to, I can try to consolidate everyone’s individual links here so you can peruse and shift from one information source to another.

It’s been brought to my attention, too, that many of you want to try and take an active role within the brotherhood again, but sometimes find it difficult to find the chance to do so. Chapter is, last I checked, still going to be Sundays at 8:30pm in the band room. This makes it difficult for those of you that don’t like in the immediate area to make it to meetings. Likewise, Alumni Potlucks and gatherings may have a restraint in consolidating everyone in one place. Even more difficult, is finding out about such events at the last minute – such things makes it hard to make any plans. I’m interested to hear what some of your opinions or suggestions might be in trying to rectify these issues, or if they’re even something you want to try and fix in the first place. If the majority of you are content with simple updates on day to day happenings and events, let me know that as well. I’m here to serve you and the chapter, after all.

The chapter is changing. There are a lot of things going on not only within Kappa Beta but within the fraternity as a whole. I hope that I’ll be able to fulfill this position with the amount of attention and devotion that it deserves and make amends for thing that may have happened in the past. I will keep you all up to date as consistently as possible. If anyone wants to contact me directly, I’m more than happy to talk to you. Look me up on facebook or feel free to chat with me online. My screen name is ShioriTiger.

I look forward to talking with you all and hearing your ideas!

Always yours, Always AEA
